A flush transition occurs between a gypsum board soffit and an acoustical ceiling system. The gypsum board soffit is framed with 3-5/8 inch twenty-gauge metal studs spaced at 16 inches on center, supplemented by studs spaced at 4 feet on center attached to the deck above. Five-eighths-inch gypsum board is fastened to the metal studs using bugle head self-drilling drywall screws at 12 inches on center with corner beads provided at the edge. The adjacent acoustical ceiling tile and grid system is suspended using a minimum six-inch hanger wire and aligns flush with the finished gypsum board edge.
