Cold-formed steel stud walls require horizontal bridging to prevent torsional rotation and buckling, secured here with clip angles at each stud and bridging line. A 1 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch by 16-gauge angle clip connects the horizontal bridging to the stud using four number 10 screws as indicated. For 6-inch studs, use a 2 1/2 inch by 16-gauge horizontal bridging member with a 1/2-inch flange, while 3 5/8-inch or 4-inch studs receive a 1 1/2 inch by 16-gauge member with a 1/2-inch flange. A typical bridging splice detail provides a 6-inch lap secured with two number 10 screws.
