This assembly features a concrete curb adjacent to a concrete walk with a thickened edge, separated by a one-half inch expansion joint. The curb top includes tooled one-half inch radius edges. The sidewalk slab thickness is determined per plans, while the curb sits on an eighteen-inch minimum depth of aggregate base or concrete over natural grade. Expansion joints are required at sixteen feet on-center maximum, as well as at all curve tangents and corners. Subgrade preparation and steel reinforcement should follow the soils report and structural engineer recommendations.
