This assembly consists of two parallel rows of metal studs separated by a one-inch minimum clear space as sized per plan. Each side of the partition is finished with two layers of gypsum board over acoustical insulation placed within the stud cavities. Lateral stud bracing is provided as required, with no rigid cross bracing permitted between the two stud rows. The assembly achieves a two-hour fire rating under UL design U493 and provides an STC rating ranging from 65 to 69.
