A structural steel column connects to a concrete foundation using a base plate secured by four three-quarter-inch anchor rods and heavy hex nuts with standard washers. A two-inch non-shrink grout layer is placed beneath the base plate, maintaining a three-inch minimum anchor bolt projection above the plate. A one-eighth-inch thick template plate matching the base size is included. The column is welded to the base plate with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld all around, supplemented by three-eighths-inch thick plate washers at oversized base plate holes.
