A deep leg runner with a minimum three-inch leg is anchored to the underside of the floor or roof deck, which may consist of a metal deck or concrete slab. Metal deck flutes are filled with fire safing insulation. The gypsum board extends into the metal deck flutes and is anchored to the metal deep leg runner, remaining unattached to the wall stud. A runner track slip clip is installed with specific clearances, maintaining a one-inch minimum space above the wall stud. Acoustical sealant is provided at STC rated partitions on each side. Layers of five-eighths-inch gypsum board finish the assembly on each side of the wall stud.
