Concrete slab on grade contraction and construction joints include smooth steel dowels, alternate diamond plates, and vapor retarders. The assembly features a concrete slab over six inches of Class II aggregate base compacted to ninety-five percent and compacted fill per the soils report. Smooth steel dowels measuring three-quarters of an inch in diameter by one foot four inches long are spaced at eighteen inches on center with one end wrapped in grease or oil. A fifteen-mil Stego Wrap vapor retarder is placed beneath the slab. Tooled edges define the joint with a depth of one-quarter of the slab thickness.
