A hollow structural section brace is connected beneath a concrete-filled metal deck and supported by a wide-flange beam per plan. The assembly features a five-eighths-inch gusset plate welded to the top of the brace, with the top plate of the hollow structural section trimmed as required for connection to the gusset. A five-by-five-eighths-inch plate and a one-half-inch stiffener plate are provided where indicated, alongside a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld connecting the stiffener to the beam web. The top flange of the hollow structural section bears directly against the underside of the composite metal deck.
