A mechanical duct penetrates a framed gypsum wall assembly. The opening requires exterior building joint sealant applied continuously on all sides of the duct at the outside layer of gypsum wallboard with a maximum six millimeter gap. Two layers of acoustic insulation are installed where indicated by the wall type, accompanied by duct insulation wrapping the penetration. A minimum one hundred twenty-seven millimeter separation is required between adjacent penetrations.
