A recessed concrete floor slab contains a sloped mortar bed draining toward a floor drain assembly connected per plumbing drawings. A continuous fluid-applied waterproofing membrane extends over the mortar bed and into the drain sleeve, protected by a fabric corner reinforcement at the floor-to-wall transition. The concrete slab features a six-inch by six-inch block-out filled with thick-set mortar and gravel around the drain body. A cove profile with flexible sealant joints is installed at the intersection between the CMU wall and the tile floor, with the mortar bed sloped entirely from the perimeter to the drain with no level areas. Tile as specified is set over the mortar bed and CMU wall using a cementitious bond coat and grout.
