A six and a half inch Portland cement concrete slab bears on four inches of Class II aggregate base over prepared soil. The slab thickens to eight and a half inches over a thirty-six inch transition zone adjacent to the face of the retaining wall. A one-half inch premolded expansion joint material separates the concrete slab from the retaining wall face. Subgrade soil is prepared per the geotechnical engineer's specifications.
