The planting hole is excavated to a minimum of twice the root ball size with a compacted subsoil pedestal at the base to prevent settling. The tree is set two inches above the original grade, with burlap removed from the top one-third of the root ball and a three-inch layer of mulch applied over an earth-mounded watering basin. Rough-sawn hardwood stakes and guy wires with flags and hose chafing guards provide stabilization. The installation includes a tree watering bag, soil moisture retention additive, and a steel edge at the mulch ring perimeter for trees within eighty inches of accessible walks.
