This head-of-wall detail shows a two-hour fire-resistant partition intersecting a structural steel beam supporting a fluted steel deck and concrete floor or roof. A continuous twenty-gauge formed Z-clip with two-inch legs attaches directly to the bottom flange of the beam at a maximum spacing of sixteen inches on center. A continuous twenty-gauge minimum three-inch deep-leg deflection track fastens to the Z-clip at sixteen inches on center maximum, allowing independent vertical movement while keeping studs and gypsum board left unattached to the deflection track in the specified movement area. Continuous two-inch wide by twenty-gauge metal straps secure the gypsum board to the framing at eight inches on center maximum. Mineral wool insulation fills the gap between the sprayed fire-resistive material and the top of the wall. Sprayed fire-resistive material coats the steel beam, fills the flutes directly above the beam, and applies to each side of the wall assembly with a minimum one-half-inch overlap at the gypsum board and deck.
