Head-of-wall connection for a non-rated metal stud partition running parallel to an existing metal deck. A deflection slotted track featuring two-and-a-half-inch legs is secured to the wall studs on both sides using number ten sheet metal screws. Batt insulation fills the stud cavity, and the gypsum board is fastened to the studs below the deflection track. Acoustical sealant with a backer rod is applied at the wall-to-deck joint. Powder-actuated Hilti X-U pins with a one-and-one-quarter-inch minimum embedment are spaced at twenty-four inches on center, and three-eighths-inch Hilti KB-TZ expansion bolts with a two-inch minimum embedment are provided when wall-mounted items exceed twenty pounds.
