A roof hatch assembly is mounted over wood framing on a plywood roof deck with a minimum half-inch roof protection material installed on three sides. Built-up roofing extends up a four-inch fiber cant strip, finished with fiberglass felt flashing ply set into hot asphalt and a cap sheet flashing ply. A twenty-four gauge galvanized iron counterflashing insert secures over the flashing plies using head screws with steel and neoprene washers spaced at a minimum of three per side. Minimum half-inch plywood backing is secured to the hatch unit counterflashing with base flashing fasteners spaced at eight inches on center. A note specifies that roof protection material is to be set in five large dabs of roof cement and extended to the top of the cant strip, and the roof hatch is to be a Bilco type GS.
