An interface exists between a hollow structural section stair stringer, concrete-filled metal pan stair treads, and a fire-rated shaft wall. A one and one-half inch outside diameter painted steel handrail mounts adjacent to a fire-rated wall assembly. A steel beam protected with spray-applied fireproofing supports the composite concrete deck. Below the deck, the stair construction incorporates an interior wall assembly with a four-inch channel stud, one-inch gypsum shaft liner, and five-eighths-inch Type X gypsum board, with a layer of gypsum board sliding past the stringer.
