A full depth shear plate connection joins a non-braced frame beam and a girder. A shear plate is welded to each side of the girder web using a 5/16-inch fillet weld for beam depths up to 24 inches, and a 3/8-inch fillet weld for beam depths of 27 inches and greater. The connecting plates are specified as 7/16-inch thick for beam depths up to 24 inches, and 9/16-inch thick for depths of 27 inches and greater, typified on each side of the girder. Flanges of the connected beam are coped as required, and beam depth is denoted as D. Bolt size, number of bolts, and connector plate thickness are determined per the schedule referenced in detail 2.
