A 1-1/2 inch outside diameter steel handrail mounts to the wall using mounting brackets spaced at a maximum of 48 inches on center, primed and painted. The rail bracket secures with 3/8 inch diameter anchor bolts fastened through one layer of 5/8 inch gypsum board on one side of metal studs spaced at 16 inches on center. A continuous 3-5/8 inch metal stud runner attaches to the vertical studs using 3/8 inch pan head screws, with the flange of the continuous stud cut and turned up at the vertical studs.
