A control joint in a gypsum board partition framed with cold-formed metal studs is assembled with five-eighths-inch Type X gypsum board fastened by one-and-five-eighths-inch Type S screws spaced at twenty-four inches on center, finished with paint where exposed. A five-eighths-inch gap is provided between framing segments with a maximum one-half-inch control joint profile applied at the surface. The joint is configured for one-hour fire-rated or non-rated wall assemblies with a maximum spacing of thirty feet.
