A concrete sidewalk rests on compacted subgrade with an expansion and control joint assembly. A half-inch felt expansion joint material fills the joint gap, topped with a half-inch of sealant and tooled quarter-inch rounded edges. Number five smooth dowels, twenty-four inches long, span the joint at twenty-four inches on center with a bond breaker wrapped on one side. Six-by-six number ten welded wire mesh reinforces the concrete slab and is discontinued at the expansion joint. A partial depth saw cut creates a control joint spaced per plan dimensions, with the concrete thickness and subgrade details indicated.
