Exterior metal stud walls connect to ceiling joists using continuous top tracks and screw fasteners in cold-formed metal framing. A continuous top track secures a metal stud wall with two number eight screws at each stud in Detail A, intersecting with ceiling joists fastened with number eight screws at eight inches on center. Three and five-eighths inch by eighteen gauge ceiling ties secured with one number eight screw at each joist comprise an alternative configuration in Detail B, along with blocking fastened with two number eight screws at each blocking piece.
