A rectangular duct passes through a gypsum board partition with a maximum one-half inch gap between the edge of the gypsum board and the duct frame opening. The penetration is sealed with acoustical joint sealant at non-rated partitions lacking a fire damper, or with penetration firestopping at fire-rated partitions. Acoustic blanket insulation wraps the interior, and partition hangers are installed on each side of the partition.
