A 3-5/8 inch by 18-gauge metal stud extends minimum beyond the gypsum board, backed by a 2-1/2 inch by 16-gauge cold-rolled channel spanning a minimum of two wall studs. The channel is fastened to each wall stud with two number 10 sheet metal screws. A 12-gauge by 1-inch wide by 2-long steel strap secures a hanger wire to the backing stud using one number 10 sheet metal screw.
