A one-and-a-half-inch sixteen-gauge cold-rolled channel functions as a spreader bar mounted against a gypsum board finish over metal studs. The channel flanges are clipped and bent at corners, spaced at a maximum of five feet with eight-inch maximum dimensions. Number ten sheet metal screws secure the channel directly to the underlying metal studs.
