Handrail extensions at stair terminations comply with accessibility requirements for top and bottom configurations. The top handrail extension requires a minimum 12-inch horizontal extension past the top riser with a 12-inch minimum dimension to the centerline. The bottom handrail extension requires a horizontal continuation equal to the tread depth plus 12 inches minimum beyond the bottom riser. Dimensions are referenced to the California Building Code standards 11B-505.10.2 and 11B-505.10.3.
