This interior partition detail shows a sound-rated wall assembly utilizing non-structural metal framing with three-and-five-eighths-inch minimum studs spaced at twenty-four inches on center. The framing is constructed from thirty-three mil thick steel with a yield strength of thirty-three ksi, providing a maximum span limit of fourteen feet for this size. Both sides of the assembly are finished with multiple layers of gypsum board secured to the metal studs. Acoustic blanket insulation fills the stud cavity to achieve the specified sound transmission class rating of fifty, tested under NRCC-TL-92-440. Acoustical joint sealant is applied at the base of the gypsum board with a quarter-inch minimum bead to maintain acoustic performance.
