A one-and-a-half-inch diameter standard pipe handrail terminates with a return near the wall above the steel stair stringer below. The handrail extension maintains a one-foot minimum offset from the leading edge of the top stair tread. A work point marks the alignment of the stair stringer relative to the wall assembly.
