About this detail

This millwork section detail shows a custom front desk island constructed from three-quarter-inch plywood with painted white and stain finishes on the exposed faces. The assembly features a one-and-a-half-inch wood endgrain countertop supported by the plywood casework, with an integrated tape light concealed beneath the counter overhang on a concealed stand-off. A one-half-inch thick frosted acrylic sheet, specified as Plaskolite Optix acrylic, extends upward from the rear of the counter behind a milled opening in the plywood face. The base of the island sits on four-inch wood blocking above the finished floor, housing interior shoe storage compartments spaced equally across the varying width of the unit.
