The rootball crown is set two inches above the top of the adjacent planting soil, with the rootball resting on compacted planting soil over a scarified subgrade. An amended imported planting soil continuous bed surrounds the rootball at a width of two and a half times the rootball width. Two inches of imported wood mulch are placed over the planting bed, keeping a four-inch clearance from the tree trunk. Two-inch diameter by ten-foot long wood pole tree stakes are installed with two per tree, driven a minimum of twelve inches and a maximum of thirty inches into the subgrade. Tree ties are secured to the stakes in a figure eight pattern at the tree crotch with two per tree.
