A flexible steel or aluminum conduit of maximum one-half inch diameter passes through a one or two-hour rated stud wall opening with an annular space maintained between one-eighth and one-quarter inch. Fire sealant is applied into the annular space to the depth of the wallboard. A crown is added at three-eighths inch for a two-hour assembly or one inch for a one-hour assembly, overlapping the wallboard by one-half inch in either configuration following Underwriters Laboratories system WL1046.
