An elevator call button or hall lantern box penetrates a shaft wall assembly consisting of shaft wall studs, 1-inch gypsum linear panels, and a partition as scheduled. A 22-gauge steel strip measuring 6 inches by 12 inches minimum is positioned behind the box. Additionally, 1-inch gypsum liner box protection is installed exclusively behind the electrical boxes where the main liner panels are cut and removed, extending a minimum of 4 inches on each side.
