This firestop assembly accommodates a metallic pipe penetration through a one or two-hour fire-rated gypsum wallboard and wood or steel stud partition. The through penetrant consists of a nominal 12-inch or smaller schedule 10 steel pipe, or a nominal 6-inch or smaller copper tubing, centered within the firestop system. Pipe covering comprises 1-inch or 2-inch thick hollow cylindrical heavy-density glass fiber insulation jacketed with an all-service jacket. The annular space between the pipe covering and the gypsum wallboard cutout receives a 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch thickness for 1-inch insulation, or 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch thickness for 2-inch insulation. The firestop system features a nominal 1/4-inch thick intumescent elastomeric wrap strip wrapped around the pipe covering and secured with steel wire or aluminum foil tape. A continuous 1/4-inch diameter caulk bead applies at the wrap strip and wall interface and to the exposed edge of the wrap strip.
