A two-hour fire-rated shaft wall assembly conforming to UL Design Number U428 intersects a structural steel beam. The shaft side features one inch Type X core board secured with J track and CH studs sized per the metal stud table. The stair enclosure side incorporates metal stud framing backed by hat channels for gypsum board support. Two layers of five-eighths-inch Type X gypsum board are applied to the framing on the stair enclosure side. A tight dimensional tolerance is maintained at the beam centerline per structural drawings.
