The existing pavement is cold planed to conform to the new asphalt overlay, maintaining a minimum depth of two and one-half inches at the transition edge. A tack coat is applied to all vertical and horizontal exposed surfaces prior to placing the asphalt overlay. The overlay transitions smoothly from the milled joint across the existing subgrade and base layers.
