A Type C steel channel backing plate is notched around and screwed to a minimum of three continuous metal studs to support wall-hung loads up to two hundred pounds. The assembly utilizes minimum 3-5/8 inch by 16-gauge steel studs, including double studs at the sides of the opening. The C6 by 16-gauge backing plate is fastened to each intersected stud using three number 10 flat head sheet metal screws. Wall stud flanges remain continuous through the backing installation.
