Stair treads feature a two-inch wide solid color contrasting stripe placed a maximum of one inch from the edge of the tread. Handrails maintain a height of thirty-four to thirty-eight inches above the nosing and extend with a twelve-inch minimum return to the wall or newel post. Closed risers and slip-resistant treads are required, with contrasting striping applied to the top and bottom treads of interior stairs and all treads on exterior stairs.
