The bottom landing of a steel stair assembly anchors to a concrete floor slab. A hollow structural section stair stringer frames into the landing with a half-inch steel plate base secured by Hilti expansion anchors sized per the stair manufacturer. The guardrail system comprises one-and-a-half-inch outside diameter steel pipe top rails and intermediate rails typical throughout the run. A separate one-and-a-half-inch outside diameter steel pipe handrail is mounted at three feet above the finish floor using a half-inch steel flat bar handrail support welded to the stair stringer. All welded connections are specified to be ground smooth, and all exposed metal elements are to be painted. Intermediate steel pipes at the stair and landing are required to align vertically.
