A concrete walk features a half-inch felt expansion joint material capped with a half-inch sealant on top, supported over a subgrade with a half-inch joint width centered on a centerline. Smooth dowels measuring five-eighths inch in diameter by twenty-four inches long are spaced at twenty-four inches on center and wrapped with a bond breaker on one side. Six-by-six size ten by size ten welded wire mesh reinforcement is discontinued at the expansion joint. A control joint consists of a one-quarter-inch deep saw cut with a one-eighth-inch width over a ninety-degree compacted subgrade. The assembly rests on a one-and-a-half-inch base layer over a ninety-percent compacted subgrade, with concrete thickness variable as indicated on plans.
