A vertical concrete construction joint is formed between a first and second pour, featuring a roughened surface with a one-quarter inch minimum amplitude. A continuous two-by-four is placed continuously and removed prior to the second pour to create an edge notch. Form ties secure the formwork on the exposed face, located within three inches maximum and one-half inch from the joint line. Reinforcing steel continues through the joint. When both faces are exposed, a continuous two-by-four is required on both sides, and form ties must be tightened after its removal before placing the second pour.
