A cross-laminated timber deck supports a metal deflection track sized to match the gauge of the wall studs. A metal runner track is nested into the deflection track, maintaining a one-half inch gap for structural movement. Gypsum board layers are attached to the metal studs only and left unattached to the deflection track. A maximum one-half inch flexible firestop sealant fills the full depth of the gypsum board on both sides of the partition head. Additional layers of gypsum board are applied to each side to achieve a two-hour fire rating.
