A 1 1/2-inch vertical steel pipe post is welded directly to a steel stair stringer above the step finish, supporting a 42-inch high guardrail configuration. The vertical post consists of multiple 1 1/2-inch galvanized steel pipes spaced evenly with 5 1/2-inch center-to-center dimensions, maintaining a maximum four-inch spacing between rails. A separate 1 1/2-inch steel handrail is mounted on a bracket welded to the vertical pipe at a height of 36 inches where required. All welds are specified to be ground smooth.
