This expansion joint assembly bridges between structural steel columns and concrete slabs over metal decks. The joint incorporates an expansion joint cover plate system flanked by two three-sixteenths by two by twenty-inch metal plates with ground edges welded to one steel column only and finished with paint PT-9, terminating flush with the column face. A three-sixteenths by five by twenty-inch metal kick plate with ground edges is welded to one steel column and finished with paint PT-9. The supporting steel columns and steel beams are sized per structural drawings, with the joint width coordinated accordingly.
