A steel beam connects to a supporting wide flange column with a top clip angle and a diagonal L3x3x1/4 strut in Case I. The diagonal angle is welded with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds and connects to a quarter inch plate secured with three-quarter inch diameter bolts top and bottom. Case II provides the standard beam framing connection without the diagonal brace when dimension X is twelve inches or less. General notes specify selecting Case I when dimension X exceeds twelve inches and Case II when dimension X is less than or equal to twelve inches.
