Two continuous number four reinforcing bars are installed in the upper third of the slab within the previous pour adjacent to the new dead end saw joint, terminating three inches from any intersecting joint. A spray bond breaker is applied along the face of the construction joint. Typical dowels are spaced at one foot on each side of the saw joint. The sawcut at the joint intersection is executed at full depth for the last two feet, ending one quarter inch prior to the intersection with no overcut allowed into the existing slab.
