The steel stud splice connects aligned vertical studs using a sixteen-gauge steel stud blocking piece tied together with a one-and-a-half-inch by twenty-gauge steel strap secured by number ten sheet metal screws at each stud blocking piece. A one-and-a-half-inch by two-inch by one-quarter-inch clip angle, sized slightly less than the stud width and fabricated from sixteen-gauge steel, accommodates stud depths ranging from three-and-five-eighths inches to eight inches. Four number ten sheet metal screws fasten the clip angle and blocking components together. A three-quarter-inch gap or dimension coordinates the alignment between framing members.
