A hollow structural section column centers on a wide-flange beam flange using a half-inch base plate secured by four three-quarter-inch diameter bolts. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web beneath the column footprint with typical three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. The hollow structural section column is welded to the base plate with typical three-sixteenths-inch welds.
