Standard hook and tie details specify bend diameters and extension lengths for reinforcing bars in concrete structures. A ninety-degree hook tie or stirrup requires a bend diameter D equal to six bar diameters for number five or smaller bars, or twelve bar diameters for number six through number eight bars. A one-hundred-thirty-five-degree hook tie or stirrup uses a bend diameter of six bar diameters for number eight or smaller bars with specified extension lengths. A one-hundred-thirty-five-degree seismic stirrup or tie requires a bend diameter of six bar diameters or three inches minimum. Specific tie and stirrup bend diameters are listed for number three through number six bars. All bends must be made cold, and number fourteen and number eighteen bars require bend testing and approval prior to bending.
