A one-hour fire-resistant smoke barrier head-of-wall assembly occurs beneath a concrete floor or roof slab over a non-rated fluted steel deck oriented perpendicularly or diagonally to the flutes. A continuous twenty-two gauge minimum three-inch deep-leg deflection track attaches to the overhead deck at a maximum spacing of twelve inches on center. Gypsum board and studs remain unattached to the deflection track within the designated slip area, leaving a three-quarter-inch clearance gap. A continuous two-inch wide by twenty-two gauge metal strap provides top attachment of the studs one inch below the track boundary. A scheduled ceiling line intersects the stud framing below the strap attachment.
