Handrail height is dimensioned between 34 and 38 inches to the top of the bar for both stairs and ramps. Handrail clearance requires a minimum of 1 1/2 inches from the adjacent wall. Top and bottom handrail extensions at ramps require a 12-inch minimum extension plus the horizontal projection. Top handrail extensions at stairs require a 12-inch horizontal extension past the top riser. Bottom handrail extensions at stairs extend by 12 inches plus one tread depth past the bottom riser.
