A typical stair guardrail and handrail assembly is mounted to a concrete-filled metal pan landing. The top guardrail consists of a 1 1/2-inch diameter pipe positioned at 3 feet 6 inches above the landing. A separate 1 1/2-inch diameter handrail is mounted below at 3 feet 0 inches. Vertical pickets measure 3/4 inch in diameter and are spaced at a maximum of 4 inches on center. A 1 1/2-inch pipe bottom rail completes the assembly above the stair landing. All metal components are shop primed and painted.
